Melody by Father John DeBrebeuf, English Lyrics by J.E. Middleton, Arrangement by Carl Hammond
If you are tired of the same old chestnuts here is a remedy. This will instantly feel familar and yet be different. Haunting melody and interesting lyrics.
Father John DeBrebeuf was an 18th century French Jesuit Missionary in what is now Quebec. This piece was composed during an extended illness. The priest felt that using native american imagery to describe the Nativity would make it more accessible to his charges.
Although tremendoulsy popular in Canada it is rarely heard outside the country.
The arrangement begins like a rock ballad and features an evocative soprano solo. It builds to an exciting, dramatic climax before tapering down to a serenely hypnotic conclusion.
